Hazel DuChamp, 90

Thief River Falls - Hazel DuChamp, 90, died Wednesday, August 26, 1998 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 31 at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend William Kerr officiating. Special music was provided by Grace Hammer. Casketbearers were Don Hanson, Dean DuChamp, Tim Engelstad, Scott Engelstad, Richard Engelstad and Randy Twistol. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Hazel Alma Adolfson was born on January 13, 1908 on the family farm in Black River township of Pennington county, the daughter of Claus and Christine (Strom) Adolfson. After her mother's early death, Hazel spent many years keeping house for her father and brothers. She attended Wylie School and was baptized and confirmed at Black River Lutheran Church.

On June 4, 1943 Hazel was united in marriage to Joseph DuChamp in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls until retiring at Union Lake in 1968. After Joseph died on October 14, 1977 Hazel moved back to Thief River Falls.

She enjoyed her large family, friends, handiwork, music and baking.

Hazel is survived by three sons, Mark (Judy) DuChamp of Thief River Falls, Duane (Peggy) DuChamp of Clinton township, MI and Arden (Darlene) DuChamp of Minneapolis; three daughters, Ione (Samuel) Siegel of Golden Valley, Joan (Donald) Engelstad of Thief River Falls and Naida (Jack) Pederson of St. Cloud; 26 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; one sister, Edna Hahner of Bozeman, MT; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers, William, Hilding, Norman and George; and two sisters, Agnes and Esther.
