Thelma Driscoll, 79

Thief River Falls - Thelma E. Driscoll, 79, died Saturday, October 3, 1998 at the Convalescent Nursing Care Center of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, October 7) at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Reverend Dennis Raymond officiating. Special music will be provided by Grace Hammer. Casketbearers will be Stanley Zdon, John LeVance III, Lewis Driscoll, James Driscoll, John Shinn Jr. and Leonard Spinner. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Tuckerton, NJ.

Visitation was held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and until the time of the service today at Green Funeral Home.

Thelma Elizabeth Driscoll was born on September 16, 1919 at Ship Bottom, NJ, the daughter of John and Carrie (Reeder) Shinn. She attended school in Barnegat, NJ and grew up in that community.

On March 13, 1939 she was united in marriage to Edward Driscoll at Long Beach Island, NJ. Edward was a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, and he and Thelma raised their family in several cities on the East Coast. In 1955 the couple moved to Tuckerton, NJ. Thelma was employed at the Smithville Inn at Smithville, NJ and at the Barnegat Sewing Factory at Barnegat, NJ. She also had several other jobs as a volunteer. Shortly after her husband died on May 7, 1982, Thelma moved to Thief River Falls.

She loved baseball and watching the Minnesota Twins, playing cards, bingo and walking uptown. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends and spent many years volunteering at the Riverside Terrace in Thief River Falls.

Thelma is survived by four sons, Edward (Anita) Driscoll of Hernando, FL, Robert (Patricia) Driscoll of Inverness, FL, Lewis (Linda) Driscoll of Tuckerton, NJ and James (Suzanne) Driscoll of Arnold, MD; three daughters, Jean (Dennis) Freed of Topeka, KS; Shirley Ann Driscoll of Thief River Falls and Audrey (Larry) Korpi of Middle River; 20 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, Ricky; one daughter, Shirley Driscoll; three grandchildren, Susan Driscoll, Lewis Driscoll Jr. and Lisa Marie LeVance; three brothers, Chester, Earl and John Shinn; and one sister, Ethel Stanhke.
