Elias Doten, 80

Gatzke - Elias Doten, 80, died Thursday, January 28, 1999 at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.

Graveside services were held on Monday, February 1 at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls with Reverend Tim Bauer officiating. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Elias Bebee Doten was born on May 8, 1918 in Marshall county near Gatzke, the son of Elias Atwood Doten and Maggie Mae (Bebee) Doten. His father died in the fall of 1918, and Elias was raised by his mother until he was 12 years old. He attended the rural Gatzke School through the third grade.

From 1930 until 1934 he resided at the Faribault State School in Faribault. He then made his home at the State School and Care Center in Cambridge from 1934 until 1960 when he moved to Brainerd. Elias lived in Brainerd until 1969 when he moved to the Fergus Falls State Care Center. He lived there until 1998 when he moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.

Elias enjoyed swimming and participated in several swim meets during his younger years.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, several nieces and nephews, and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ralph Doten; two half brothers, Clarence H. Smith and Luey Smith.
