Ruby Doran, 83

Detroit Lakes - Ruby L. Doran, 83, died Sunday, January 2, 2000 at St. Mary's Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, January 5) at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes with Rev. David Peterson officiating. Juliette Gunderson will be the organist, and vocal music will be provided by Solveig Nordsletten. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4 at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Ruby L. Hall was born on June 11, 1916 in Marshall county, the daughter of Ole and Mary (Loseth) Hall. She grew up and attended school in rural Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls. She was baptized on July 29, 1916 and later confirmed at Rindal Lutheran Church in rural Thief River Falls. Ruby then went on to earn a teaching certificate and taught at a country school in rural Thief River Falls.

On June 22, 1938 she was united in marriage to John Doran at Thief River Falls, and the couple made their home in rural Thief River Falls before moving to Newfolden in 1942. In 1958 they moved to Detroit Lakes. Ruby had been a resident of St. Mary's Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes since October of 1999.

Ruby was very active at First Lutheran Church and with the First Lutheran Quilters. She also did volunteer work for both Emmanuel Nursing Home and St. Mary's Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes.

Survivors include two daughters, Myrna Doran of Minneapolis and JoAnn (Bill) Svendsen of Nisswa; one son, Rodney (Winnie) Doran of Buffalo, NY; five grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, John on October 26, 1977; her parents; three brothers; and eight sisters, Inga, Laura, Mary, Eleanor, Alice, Mildred and two in infancy. A00003B2000JA05
