
Sartell - Robert W. Dodds, 73, formerly of Red Lake Falls, died Thursday, February 19, 1998 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 21 at the Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids with Chaplain Ken Bates officiating and at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 23 at First Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls with Reverend Sherwood McKay officiating.
Robert W. Dodds was born in Lisbon, ND on January 30, 1925, the son of Warren and Alma (Simonsen) Dodds. He grew up and graduated from high school in Moorhead. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945 and advanced to the rank of 2nd lieutenant in the Army Air Corps where he flew B-17s. Following his discharge from the army, he attended Moorhead State Teacher's College and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He worked as a pharmacy intern for Hal Lane in Red Lake Falls and then purchased the drug store from him in 1954. Bob operated Dodds Drug for 37 years, retiring in 1991.
Bob was very active in the Red Lake Falls community. He was instrumental in bringing the Alma Trailer Co., now Homark, to town and was an officer of the Oak Knolls Golf Course in the years following World War II when the course was being rebuilt. He was a member and trustee of First Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls, a member of Red Lake Falls Civic & Commerce Association, was a former member of the Red Lake Falls City Council, and was a charter member of the Red Lake Falls Jaycees. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Red Lake Falls and a lifetime member of the Red Lake Falls American Legion. He was on the physician search committee, the Red Lake Falls Development Corp., and served on the board of directors at the Red Lake County State Bank. In 1991, he was named Man of the Year in Red Lake Falls.
Bob is survived by one daughter, Lori (Kurt) Rippentrop of Kimball; one son, Michael Dodds of Red Lake Falls; five grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Ann Dodds of Moorhead and Rosemary Dodds of North Fort Myers, FL; and one sister-in-law, Barb Dodds of Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Andrew.
