
Thief River Falls - Raymond DeMeyere, 70, died Monday, May 18, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, May 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church with Father Dennis Weiland officiating. Casketbearers will be Philip Olson, Marvin Olson, Tom Woirnarowicz, James Kuznia, Bruce Chwialkowski and William Borowicz. Honorary casketbearers will be Allen and Lynn DeMeyere, Ray and Jeannie Nelson, Robert and Ruth Strandberg, Irvin and Marge Jarshaw, Larry and Mary Ann Laymon, Elton and Yvonne Underdahl, Vernon and Joan Jorgenson, Leland and Jan Nelson, Ron and Esther Olson and Raymond's fellow Soo Line employees. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion and VFW Post of Thief River Falls. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Green Funeral Home from 3 to 8 p.m. with an 8 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, May 21 and at the church for one hour before services on Friday.
Raymond Lloyd DeMeyere was born on March 6, 1928 in Warrenton township of Marshall county, the son of Albert and Emma (Olson) DeMeyere. He was baptized in the Christian faith at the McCrea Church in Warren, and he attended school at the rural Cook School. Following his education, Raymond worked as a laborer for a number of years in Marshall county and also as a logger in International Falls. He returned to the area and worked for Filipi Farms near Fisher in Polk county. He then secured employment with the Soo Line Railroad and worked there until he enlisted with the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. When discharged, he returned to Warren and farmed while continuing his job with the Soo Line for over 43 years. He retired on March 6, 1990.
On June 3, 1978 Raymond was united in marriage to Rosemary Borowicz at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls.
He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, the Eagle's Aerie and the American Legion and VFW Posts in Thief River Falls. Projects at his farm near Radium and at his home in Thief River Falls kept Raymond busy. He enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Rosemary; three brothers, Stanley (Lois) DeMeyere and Russell (Clarice) DeMeyere, both of Warren, and Art (Bonnie) DeMeyere of Fridley; seven sisters, Ida (Harry) Nelson of East Grand Forks, Frieda (John) Quicker of Spring Hill, FL, Violet (Norris) Anderson of Shelly, Margaret (Larry) Ulrich of St. Hilaire, Caroline (Arden) Bohach of Rollag, Rosalind (Clyde) Rosten Troy, MI, and Susan (Ron) Carlson of Conway, AR; two step brothers, Leonard (Ollie) Klause and Henry Klause, both of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; one step sister, Edna (Peter) Huesmann of Rutherford, NJ; a sister-in-law; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert DeMeyere; and two nephews.
