
Red Lake Falls - Ivy Dale, 93, died Wednesday, October 8, 1997 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 11, at 2 p.m. at the Petterson Funeral Home Chapel in Red Lake Falls with Reverend Sherwood McKay officiating. Carol Thompson was the organist, and JoAnn Zutz and Richard Thompson sang a duet. Casketbearers were Roger Gallant, John Zimpel, Philip Zimpel and Adam Gallant. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Gervais township of Red Lake County. Arrangements were with the Petterson Funeral Home of Red Lake Falls.
Ivy Catherine Zimpel was born on July 24, 1904 at Red Lake Falls, the daughter of Albert and Clara (Kurtzweg) Zimpel. She graduated from high school in Red Lake Falls in 1922. Following graduation, Ivy taught in the rural schools around Red Lake Falls for six years. She then attended Moorhead State University and the University of Minnesota for her bachelors degree.
Ivy spent the next 39 years teaching in the Minneapolis School System. She was united in marriage to Newell Dale on February 21, 1942 in Minneapolis. After her retirement in 1970, she returned to Red Lake Falls where she resided until her death.
Ivy was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends. She received special recognition for her introduction of the Linguistic Reading Approach. Her work was filmed and used for new teaching candidates in the Minneapolis School System by the Department of Education of Carlton College.
Ivy is survived by one niece, Dolores Dale of Richfield; four nephews, Roy Dale of Bloomington, Bud (Arlene) Zimpel of Plummer, James (Hazel) Zimpel of Red Lake Falls and Ralph Gagnon of Minneapolis; and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Newell; her parents; two sisters, Melvina Gagnon and Pauline Henning; and two brothers, Russell Zimpel and William Nieland.
