Clarence Dahlen, 88

Thief River Falls - Clarence Dahlen, 88, formerly of Goodridge, died Wednesday, September 23, 1998 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 27 at 3 p.m. at Ekelund Lutheran Church, rural Goodridge, with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Grace Hammer was the organist. Soloists were Grace Hammer and Vernon Iverson. Casketbearers were Allan Steenerson, Jim Dahlen, Galen Dahlen, David Dahlen, Ronnie Ouren and Leslie Iverson. Honorary casketbearers were Dale Hanson, Palmer Lovly, Chester Solberg, Alfred Iverson, Lewis Quam, Obert Hovet, Orlin Hanson, Robert Parnow, Mervin Rindahl, Stanley Erickson, Eddie Stucy Jr., Alvin Kompen, Norman Kriel, John Hoffman, Vernon Iverson and all who considered Clarence a friend. Burial was in Ekelund Cemetery in Highlanding township of Pennington county. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Clarence Raymond Dahlen was born on August 31, 1910 at home in Reiner township of Pennington county, the son of John and Lottie (Johnson) Dahlen. He was baptized and confirmed at Ekelund Lutheran Church. He worked on the family farm, later taking it over and living there. He enjoyed working with animals and served the area treating sick livestock.

On June 30, 1937 he was united in marriage to Clara Ramsey at the parsonage in Goodridge by Reverend O. O. Bjorgan. The couple moved to Thief River Falls in July of 1991. Clarence moved to Oakland Park Nursing Home on August 10, 1998.

He was a member of Ekelund Lutheran Church and served on its church council. He also worked on the ASCS committee and served on the Reiner township board. He enjoyed fishing in his earlier years. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and spoiling his grandchildren.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Clara of Thief River Falls; one daughter, Claire Ann (Neil) Liedberg of Thief River Falls; two grandchildren; one sister, Gina Fjeld of Thief River Falls; one sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elmer Dahlen and Justin Dahlen; and six sisters, Clara Larson, Ethel Dahlen, Mayme Kulseth, Mayme in infancy, Nina Stucy and Myrtle Olson.
