- Steve Civas, 78, died Saturday, June 17, 2000 at his home near
Erskine.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, at Saron Lutheran Church, rural Erskine, with Rev. Martin Horn officiating. Casketbearers will be Virgil Throne, Terry Throne, Lynn Throne, Tom Throne, Lowell Hamrum and Stanley Brekke. Honorary casketbearers will be Adrian Benedick, Lloyd Melugin and Art Lee. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites provided by Bailey-Throne American Legion Post 596 of Erskine.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, June 21) from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 6 p.m. prayer service at Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church Thursday.
Steve Civas was born on January 8, 1922 in Gardner, Mass., the son of Anton and Anna (Cikaiskaitis) Civas. He was raised in Chicago, Ill. and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged in February of 1946 and moved to the Erskine area in the 1950s.
On October 5, 1957, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Throne at Saron Lutheran Church near Erskine. Following their marriage, Steve farmed and worked at Erskine Manufacturing until his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of Saron Lutheran Church and Bailey-Throne American Legion Post 596 of Erskine.
Steve is survived by his wife, Phyllis; one daughter, Darlene (Chuck) Macomber of New Lisbon, Wisc.; one grandson; one sister, Connie (Cliff) Setter of Norwood, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Anthony; and one sister, Lenora Martin. A00003B2000JN21
