
McIntosh - Steve O. Chwialkowski, 88, of Strandquist, died Thursday, July 24, 1997 at the McIntosh Manor.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 28 at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist with Pastor Doug Norquist officiating. Ellen Johnson was the organist, and Pastor and Mrs. Doug Norquist provided special music. Casketbearers were Shannon, Corey, and Chris Chwialkowski, Chad Kaushagen, James Kilen, Dustin Johnson, Jonathan Hugg, Trish Sollund, Aaron Nelson and all of Steve's grandchildren. Burial was at English Cemetery in Strandquist. The Collins Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Steve O. Chwialkowski was born on June 12, 1909 at Florian, the son of Peter and Rosalianie (Budziszewski) Chwialkowski. He attended school and grew to manhood in Florian. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith.
On November 22, 1937, he was united in marriage to Evelynne Larson in Florian. She died as a result of a car accident the following day. On June 26, 1941, he married Gladys Hendrickson at Warren. The couple lived and farmed near Strandquist. Steve was also employed by Witcher Construction for many years and later at Arctic Cat, Inc. in Thief River Falls. He also worked for Northwest Community Action.
He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church. Following his wife's death in 1989, Steve moved to Valley Home in Thief River Falls. He later moved to the Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center and since March of this year, has resided at the McIntosh Manor in McIntosh.
He is survived by three sons, Allen (Florence) of Bemidji, Dennis (Sharon) of Grand Forks, ND, and Gary (Suzi) of Halma; six daughters, Joan (Dean) Kaushagen of Thief River Falls, Shirley (Wayne) Kilen of Holt, Myrna Johnson of Drayton, ND, Carol (Carl) Hugg of Strandquist, Rita (Terry) Sollund of Karlstad, and Susan (Darwin) Nelson of Newfolden; 31 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wives; parents; one son in infancy; six brothers; and three sisters.
