Roma "Stu" Chaput, 66

Red Lake Falls - Roma "Stu" Chaput, 66, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998 at his home near Red Lake Falls.

Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, July 27 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Gentilly with MSGR Roger Grundhaus officiating. Special music will be provided by St. Peter's Church Choir. Casketbearers were Paul Proulx, Earl Proulx, George Proulx, Jack Ferris, Raymond Chaput and Daryl Chaput. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.

Roma Chaput was born April 22, 1932 at Langdon, ND, the son of Alphonse and Alice (Cheeney) Chaput. He moved with his parents to Pembina, ND as a young child. He attended country school in Pembina. In 1950 he moved to Gentilly where he farmed with his father.

On February 27, 1954 he was united in marriage to Marie Proulx at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks. The lived and farmed in Red Lake and Polk counties until his retirement in 1995. Over the years he was also employed at Alma and Detroiter Mobile Home factory in Red Lake Falls and from 1966 to 1992 at American Crystal Sugar in Crookston.

He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Gentilly.

Roma is survived by his wife, Marie of Red Lake Falls; four daughters, Debra (fiancee Dennis Hanson) of Crookston, Cynthia (Rick) Johnson of Luray, VA Michelle (Guy) Kruse of Thief River Falls and Lisa (fiancee Mark Menard) of Crookston; five sons, Rick (Peggy) Chaput of Crookston, and Tim (Shelly) Chaput, Craig (Carole) Chaput, Edward (Cherie) Chaput and Marc (Laurie) Chaput, all of Red Lake Falls; one foster son, Dennis (Eileen) Johnson of Glyndon; 25 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Theresa McNaughton of St. Paul; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rolland.
