Helen Chapiewski, 85

Dilworth - Helen M. Chapiewski, 85, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, at Dilworth Lutheran Church in Dilworth. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls with Korsmo Funeral Service of Moorhead in charge of the arrangements.

Helen Marie Deihl was born on March 19, 1915 at Baker, N.D., the daughter of Dervin and Anna (Ritter) Deihl. She grew up and was educated in the Baker-Mylo, N.D. area.

In 1941, she moved to California where she worked in a defense plant during the war. While there, she met Clarence Hallen of Grafton, N.D. They couple married in November of 1941 in California and returned to Grafton in 1943 where Helen owned and operated Helen's Cafe. Clarence died in 1950.

In 1952, Helen moved to Grand Forks where she operated Double E Cafe with a partner. In 1953, she married Ed Chapiewski. They lived in Grand Forks and then traveled for 13 years while Ed worked on road construction projects. In 1967, they returned to Grand Forks. After Ed died in 1977, Helen lived in Fosston and Thief River Falls before moving to Dilworth in 1989.

She was active in her community and church.

Survivors include a sister, Rachel (Vic) Rodahl of Holtville, Calif.; two brothers, Don (Eloise) Deihl of Dilworth and Dave Deihl of Long Beach, Calif.; 17 nieces and nephews; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. A00003B2000FB07
