Marguerite Cartier, 88

Bemidji - Marguerite Cartier, 88, formerly of Red Lake Falls, died Monday, April 3, 2000 at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji.

Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, April 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim Bushy officiating. Kathie Knott was the organist, and special music was provided by St. Joseph's Church Choir. Patsy Hallend was the canter. Casketbearers were Jason Cartier, Steve Sheldon, Brian Niskamen, Marc LaPlante, Royal Murphy and Delbert Audette. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls with the Petterson Funeral Home of Red Lake Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Marguerite Carmen St. Pierre was born on July 23, 1911 at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Joseph and Alice (Langlois) St. Pierre. After her father's death, Marguerite lived in a Catholic convent for a few years. At a young age, she and her mother moved to Terrebonne where she grew up and attended rural school. In 1929, she graduated from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls where she worked as a secretary.

On June 13, 1934, she was united in marriage to Leo J. Cartier in Crookston. The couple lived in Red Lake Falls. After Leo's death on October 5, 1975, Marguerite continued to make her home in Red Lake Falls until March of 1992 when she moved to Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji.

She was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. Ann's Society. Marguerite was also active in the French club and garden club in Red Lake Falls.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, fishing and being outdoors.

Marguerite is survived by one son, Jerry (Zelda) Cartier of Bemidji; one daughter, Peggy (Mel) Schaupp of Mora; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; one sister, Carmen LaPlante of Crookston; one brother-in-law; and one sister-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. A00003B2000AP12
