
Red Lake Falls - Mary Carriere, 74, died Friday, April 30, 1999 at her home in Red Lake Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim Bushy officiating. Gemma Drees was the organist, and Darla Huot was the soloist. Special music was also provided by St. Joseph's Church Choir. Casketbearers were David Cuno, Tom Cuno, Leo Carriere, Rick Swendra, Whitey Johnson and Guy Ford. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Petterson Funeral Home of Red Lake Falls.
Mary Anna Cuno was born December 17, 1924 in rural Red Lake Falls, the daughter of William and Gertrude (Starken) Cuno. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. She attended elementary school in Red Lake Falls and graduated from Lafayette High School. Mary then attended teachers training and after receiving her certificate, taught in area schools for over nine years.
On June 2, 1952 she was united in marriage to Arthur Carriere at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. From 1970 to 1994 Mary enjoyed working at St. Joseph's School with the hot lunch program. Since 1968 she has also served as an election judge, and currently, she was serving as council president for the senior meal site.
Mary is survived by three daughters, Carol (Rob) Larson of Crookston, Rose Carriere (fiancee Robert Reed) of Warren and Martha (James) Newquist of Crookston; four sons, James Carriere of Grygla, Jerome (Angie) Carriere of Grafton, ND, John Carriere of Pelican Rapids and Vincent Carriere of Red Lake Falls; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; one son, Steven; one daughter, Monica in infancy; two brothers, Philip and Edward; and one sister-in-law. A00003B1999MY05
