Leone Carlson, 87

Thief River Falls - Leone Carlson, 87, died Wednesday, November 4, 1998 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 6 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Dennis Wieland officiating. Carol Amundson was the organist, and Marie Nowacki was the cantor. Burial was in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Leone Florence Cartier was born on September 16, 1911 in Hibbing, the daughter of Cash and Obeline (Goulet) Cartier. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Leone graduated from LaFayette High School in Red Lake Falls. She received her teacher's training certificate and taught in rural public schools in the Red Lake Falls area.

On November 18, 1935 Leone was united in marriage to Hugh E. Carlson. The couple resided in Thief River Falls where Hugh and Leone owned and operated Carlson Travel Service for many years. Leone continued to make her home in Thief River Falls after Hugh died in 1970.

Leone was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and was active in the Bridge Club.

She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Leone is survived by four daughters, Jaclyn (Robert) Cornett of Portland, OR, Ray (Pete) Michael of Paonia, CO, Erin H. Carlson of Lake Ridge, VA and Phyllis (Stephen) Rhineberger of Thief River Falls; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Ken (Hazel) Cartier of East Grand Forks and one sister, Connie Ernard of California.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Leo and Leonard Cartier; and one sister, Mary Ann Cartier.
