Dwight Carlson, 52

Oklee - Dwight Carlson, 52, died Friday, May 29, 1998 at his home in Oklee.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Nazareth Church, rural Gully, with Reverend Steven Sparley officiating. Marian Marquis was the organist, and special music was provided by Gene Arveson, Lonny Burrack and Henry Burrack. Casketbearers were Craig Helgaas, Lonny Burrack, Gene Arveson, Mike Dessellier, Jim Dessellier and John Erlandson. Military Honors were accorded by the VFW of Trail. Burial will be held in the Mt. Olive Cemetery near Trail at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 5. The Petterson Funeral Home of Oklee was in charge of the arrangements.

Dwight Neil Carlson was born on August 20, 1945 in Crookston, the son of Dale and Norma (Tommervick) Carlson. He was raised near Sundahl and attended school in Gary. The family moved to Trail in 1952, and he attended school in Trail and Gonvick. Dwight entered the U.S. Army and served in Korea. Following his honorable discharge in 1971, he returned to Thief River Falls where he worked at Home Lumber for a time.

In 1970, he married Sharon Woods in North Dakota. In 1972 he began a 25-year career for Pennington County, retiring in 1997. In 1974, he moved to a farm north of Gully, and in 1989, he moved to Oklee where he has since resided.

Dwight was an active member of Nazareth Lutheran Church where he held several offices. He was also a member of the Hickory township board for many years. He served on the Oklee Fire Department and ambulance service and was a member of the Trail American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling and was a lifetime member of the WMSTR at Rollag.

Dwight is survived by four children, Shawn (fiance´ Kippy Martell) of Oklee, Kay (Harold) Rhoades of New Haven, CT, Jack (Tracy) Lee Jr. of rural Oklee and Marcia Senske of Oklee; seven grandchildren; his mother, Norma Carlson of Thief River Falls; one sister, Melissa Carlson of Thief River Falls; and one brother, Harvey Carlson of Trail.

He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Emily; and his grandparents, Harry and Manda Carlson.
