
Clarence O. Butler, 89
Elbow Lake - Clarence O. Butler, 89, died Tuesday, December 5, 2000 at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
Services were held on Friday, December 8, at 2 p.m. at United Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake with Rev. Lewin Clefisch officiating. Erickson-Smith Funeral Home of Elbow Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
Clarence Owen Butler was born on October 1, 1911 in Missoula, Mont., the son of James and Mathilda (Rebne) Butler. When he was just a toddler, Clarence's mother passed away, and he was raised by relatives in Adams. He attended school in the Adams area, and when he came of age began working at the Hormel Packing Plant at Austin.
In 1935, Clarence was united in marriage to Esther Meyer, and the couple had two children prior to her death in 1954.
On July 30, 1956, he married Clarissa Wold at Little Brown Church in the Vale at Nashua, Iowa. Clarence retired after working at Hormel for 44 years. In 1973, Harold and Clarissa sold their home and moved to their lake home near Brainerd. In 1991, they moved to Elbow Lake.
Clarence enjoyed fishing and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Clarissa of Elbow Lake; a son, James (Annette) Butler of Torrington, Wyo.; a daughter, Patricia (Don) Jorstad of Thief River Falls; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many cousins.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther; a half-brother and a half-sister. A00003B2000DC13
