
Red Lake Falls - Mae Buse, 83, died Tuesday, January 2, 2001 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.
Mass of Christian burial was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 5, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim Bushy officiating. Gemma Drees was the organist, and Carol Kankel was the soloist. Special music was also provided by St. Joseph's Church Choir. Casketbearers were Denny Haglund, Bernard Columbus, Al Hanson, Dave Kankel, Wes Largis and Keith Leines. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls. Johnson Funeral Service of Red Lake Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Mae Kathryn Hansel was born on July 14, 1917 at Wylie, the daughter of Peter and Haddie (Dargon) Hansel. When she was two years old, she moved with her family to Red Lake Falls where she attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1936. Mae worked in several positions at the Red Lake County Courthouse.
On April 30, 1943, she was united in marriage to Al Buse at San Diego, Calif. The couple lived in San Diego until the fall of 1945 when they returned to Red Lake Falls. Mae worked in several places in Red Lake Falls, including the Gazette and Thune Insurance. She had resided at Hillcrest Nursing Home since January 12, 1999.
Mae was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Guild, the American Legion Auxiliary and Hillcrest Nursing Home Auxiliary.
She enjoyed knitting, reading and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Mae is survived by her husband, Al Buse of Red Lake Falls; two sons, Vance (Debbie) Buse of Sammamish, Wash. and Todd (Julie) Buse of Red Lake Falls; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Hazel Pahlen, Molly Hansel and Marie Champeau; and three brothers, Jacob Hansel, Louis Hansel and Maurice Hansel.
