Thief River Falls - Eunice Burrell, 80, died Wednesday, September 20, 2000 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dan Horn officiating. Special music was presented by Jeannie Harger and Marcia Knuttila. Brenda Marben was the soloist. Casketbearers were Orin Green, Phil Hess, John Bornholdt, Erling Olson, Milton Reierson and Orvel Stocks. Honorary casketbearers were members of United Methodist Church. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Eunice Louise Gilthvedt was born on August 4,1920 in Grygla, the daughter of Erling and Bengta (Modine) Gilthvedt. She attended a country school which was located in her own yard and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1939.
On September 21, 1940, Eunice was united in marriage to Melford Burrell at the Lutheran parsonage in Grygla. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls. After Mel was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II, Eunice joined him at the base where he was stationed in California. After he was discharged, the couple returned to Thief River Falls where they had since resided. Eunice enjoyed raising their family and being a homemaker.
She was an Avon representative for many years and also helped with her husband's small appliance repair business which was located in their home.
Eunice and Mel were avid dancers, enjoyed dancing every weekend for more than 26 years. They also taught ballroom dancing.
She also enjoyed shopping, going to rummage sales, working in her flower gardens, berry picking, playing the piano and writing poetry.
Eunice was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was active in study groups, retreats, Bible studies, lay witness missions and other ministries of the church.
Survivors include her husband, Mel; two daughters, Bonnie (Skip) Litstrom of Plymouth and Ginny (Steve) Anderson of Grand Marais; one son, Steve (Annie) Burrell of Brooklyn Park; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Daphne Thieling of Rochester; two brothers, Russell Gilthvedt and Vernon Gilthvedt, both of Thief River Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
Eunice was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Cory Anderson; and one brother, Earl Gilthvedt. A00003B2000SP27
