Thief River Falls - Gerald Bulger, 67, died Friday, September 15, 2000 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fargo, N.D. Bulger obit color

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, September 20) at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Tim Bushy officiating. Carol Amundson will be the organist, and special music will be provided by the Resurrection Choir. Casketbearers will be Greg Bulger, Tim Bulger, Ray Fuller, Gary Gerhardt, Ron Gerhardt, Richard Jorde, Cayler Olson and Duane Vatsaas. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion and VFW Posts of Thief River Falls.

Visitation was held from 2 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday, September 19, at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Gerald Louis Bulger was born on January 6, 1933 in Grand Forks, N.D., the son of Alfred and Laura (Matton) Bulger. He was baptized at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks and confirmed at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stephen where he grew up and attended a rural country school.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army on March 31, 1953 at Fargo, N.D. He was with Company b 43rd Engineering Battalion and was stationed in Japan. On March 16, 1955, he was discharged from Fr. Carson, Colo. and transferred to the Army Reserves. He was awarded the National Defense Serial Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

On July 9, 1966, Gerald was united in marriage to Diann Parent at Argyle. The couple settled in Marshall county and made their home in New Solum township. Diann died on May 21, 1998.

For 41 years, he worked hauling propane for what is now Cenex-Land O'Lakes. He retired two years ago and had worked on the Richard Jorde farm for the past several years.

Gerald was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and the American Legion and VFW Posts in Thief River Falls.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and especially traveling with his family.

Gerald is survived by a daughter, Tammy Bulger of Thief River Falls; a son, Jeremy Bulger of Fargo, N.D.; a sister, Vivian Gerhardt of Bismarck, N.D.; a brother, William (Joyce) of Thief River Falls; and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother-in-law.
