Thief River Falls - Gresmond Bruggeman, 79, died Friday, June 11, 1999 at the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 14 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Tim Bushy officiating. Carol Amundson was the organist, and Shelly Burkel was the cantor. Casketbearers were Bobby Bruggeman, Jamie Bruggeman, Reggie Bruggeman, Dana Klos, Ray Walter and Roger Walter. Military honors were accorded by the Thief River Falls American Legion and VFW Posts. Burial was in St. Bernard's Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Gresmond Francis Bruggeman was born on December 22, 1919, the son of Edward Joseph and Blanche Delphine (Derocher) Bruggeman at Bird Island. He was baptized there in the Catholic faith. When Gresmond was two years old he moved with his family to Brooks. They later moved to the Geddys and Jefferson, SD areas, returning to Plummer in 1935.

He entered the U. S. Army on February 27, 1941, and following his discharge on October 14, 1945, he returned to the Red Lake Falls area where he operated a gas station.

On July 27, 1946 Gresmond was united in marriage to Alfreda Pauline Walter in Thief River Falls. The couple farmed for two and one-half years near Red Lake Falls and then returned to Thief River Falls. They also lived in Long Beach, CA for a year where Gresmond worked as a grounds keeper. In Sidney, MT he worked at a Chrysler auto and machinery dealership, and in Williston, ND he was the manager of a mobile home court before returning to Thief River Falls in 1987. Alfreda died on March 6, 1994.

On November 22, 1994 Gresmond was united in marriage to Thelma Manning at Red Lake Falls.

He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, the American Legion, VFW and Eagle's Aerie.

Gresmond is survived by his wife, Thelma; four daughters, Vicky Bruggeman of New Brighton, Sally (Marty) Collins and Becky (Shaun) Carlson, both of Thief River Falls, and Laurie Jagol of Ashland, WI; two sons, Ricky (Candace) Bruggeman of Trail and Tom Bruggeman of North St. Paul; six stepchildren, Duane (Dee) Manning of Draper, UT, Gerald (Beth) Manning of Des Moines, IA, Shirley Porter of Ft. Worth, TX, Rocky Manning of Fargo, ND, and Yvonne (Jim) Suronen and Peggy (Gary) Clow, both of Thief River Falls; 11 grandchildren; 15 step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Geraldine Nance of Cedar Creek, TX and Norma (Kenneth) Bercaw of New Braunfels, TX; and one sister-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; parents; two brothers, Sidney and Clayton; and one niece.
