
Sauk Centre - Donovan L. "Don" Bruggeman, 76, died Sunday, September 12, 1999 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre.
Mass of Christian burial will be held today (Wednesday, Sept. 15) at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Timothy Wenzel officiating.
Casketbearers will be Jerry Christofferson, Bob Boyer, Jerome Peters, Allie Hoeschen, Fred Imdieke and Otto Trampe. Honorary casketbearers will be Clarence and Sue Hornick, Bob and Ann Kramer, John and Caroline Norbeck, Vern and Helen Noyes and Arnie and Lois Quistorff with Jeremy Elfering serving as cross bearer. Military honors will be provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Visitation will also be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to services today.
Donovan L. Bruggeman was born on May 1, 1923 in Oklee, the son of Albert and Ellen (Hesse) Bruggeman. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in England with the Eighth Air Force.
On February 16, 1946 he was united in marriage to Florence "Flossie" Jesperson at St. Kevin's Catholic Church in Minneapolis. He was then a dairy and grain farmer near Thief River Falls for 22 years and later in partnership with his son, Mark. During this time, he was also employed as an artificial inseminator for the Curtis Co.
In 1972, he moved to Melrose where he worked as a dairy inspector for the State of Minnesota. In 1990, Don retired as a supervisor for the northern half of the state. He moved to Ward Springs in 1978 and to Sauk Centre in 1996.
Don was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and Sauk Centre Seniors. He was also a member and past commander of American Legion Post 67, the Thief River Falls Fraternal Order of the Eagles and a former member and past president of the Sauk Centre Eagles and past president of Eagles District 3.
He was served on the Pennington County Fair Board and was an active Pennington county 4-H leader for many years. He also served as treasurer of Birchdale township in Todd county for two years.
Don is survived by his wife, Flossie Bruggeman of Sauk Centre; two sons, Mark Bruggeman of Thief River Falls and Kevin Bruggeman of Albany; two daughters, Roxanne Elfering of Crystal and Susanne (Robert) Nelson of Moorhead; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Elaine Bruggeman of Bloomington, Vivian Preusse of Richfield, and Jean Anderson of River Falls, WI; and two brothers, Roger Bruggeman of Amery, WI and Dale Bruggeman of Detroit Lakes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Susan; and two brothers, Harold and an infant brother. A00003B1999SP15
