David M. Brown, 78Goodridge &endash; Dr. David M. Brown, 78, of Goodridge, died Monday, July 21, 1997 at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24 at Federated Church in Fergus Falls with Dr. C. Edward Morgan officiating. A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 25 at Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge with Pastor Robert Dahlen officiating. Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fergus Falls with military rites by Harold T. Swenson VFW Post 612. The Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
David M. Brown was born to David L. and Elsie L. (Wright) Brown in Fergus Falls on October 11, 1918. He graduated from high school in Fergus Falls and from North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND in 1941. He later received his master and doctorate degrees in Education and Administration.
On June 3, 1941, David married Helen Elise Fisher in Fergus Falls. Helen died in 1984.
David taught school in Wildrose and Karlsruhe, ND. He entered the Army Air Force as a 2nd Lt. and was released as a 1st Lt. after serving at Assam Air Depot, China; Burma, India and Upper Assam. He received the rank of Lt. Colonel in the Army Reserves. During World War II, the family live in St. Louis, MO; Granville, OH and Sioux Falls, SD. After the war, they lived in Brooklyn Park. From 1946 to 1948, David was the elementary principal in Maple Plain, nad from 1948 to 1953, he was Superintendent of Schools in Hewitt. David, nicknamed "Doc" or "Daisy" will be remembered by many as the Superindentent of Schools in Goodridge from 1953 to 1980.
He was the mayor of Goodridge for 15 years and was active in many, many activities including serving as president of the Northwestern Minnesota Senior Federation. David was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, the NW Minnesota Retired Educators and the American Legion Post in Thief River Falls. He attended the Federated Church when in Fergus Falls. He has received many awards for his dedication in serving the community.
Survivors include a son, David (Bonnie) of Goodridge and Park Rapids; two daughters, Eve Faes of Woodstock, IL and Tammy (David) Rude of Tofte; two sisters, Florence (Bill) DeBruyn of Iron River, MI and Polly (Coral) Hammon of Tacoma, WA; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Preceding David in death were his wife, Helen; three grandsons, David Millard Brown, David Lloyd Brown and David Murray Brown; and his companion, Alberta Clauson.
