
Thief River Falls - Lawrence Brooten, 78, died Saturday, August 14, 1999 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Tim Bauer officiating. Ida Nordvall will be the organist, and soloist will be LeRoy Aasland. Military honors will be accorded by the Thief River Falls American Legion and VFW posts. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, August 18) at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.
Lawrence Grant Brooten was born on June 29, 1921 in Pennington county, the son of Ole and Clara (Rustabakke) Brooten. He attended school, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1939.
In 1942, Lawrence entered the U.S. Army and upon completion of service returned to Thief River Falls in 1946. He began as a yard clerk for the Soo Line Railroad where he was employed for over 30 years.
He was a member of the Thief River Falls American Legion and VFW posts and also held membership in the Transportation Communications Union.
Lawrence is survived by one brother, Robert (Gwen) Brooten of Thief River Falls, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Thelma Brooten, Corrine Brooten and Norma Walker; and one brother, Roland Brooten. A00003B1999AG18
