Naida Brinkman, 91

Wannaska - Naida Brinkman, 91, died Wednesday, September 13, 2000 at Sheltering Oaks Manor at Roseau.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, at Riverside Lutheran Church in Wannaska. Interment was in Mickinock Cemetery in Wannaska with Helgeson Funeral Chapel of Roseau in charge of the arrangements.

Naida Vernice Goodsell was born on August 15, 1909 in Eagan, S.D., the daughter of Clarence and Ethel (Farnsworth) Goodsell. She grew up and graduated from high school at Osakis. In 1935, she graduated from the University of Minnesota with degrees in nursing and public health. She worked for Hennepin County Public Health for two years.

On June 22, 1935, she married Ralph Brinkman in Goodhue. The couple moved to a farm near Wannaska in Roseau county. For many years, Naida worked at Roseau Community Hospital, serving as a staff nurse and later as Director of Nursing until her retirement in 1979.

She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, theater and especially visiting with friends.

Naida is survived by a son, Bill (Ione) Brinkman of Wannaska; a daughter, Mary (Gordon) Long of St. Peter; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Clarine Piotrowski of Long Beach, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; a brother, Vincent; a sister, Elwyn; and stepbrother, Perry.
