Merrill "Merle" Brevik, 59

Red Lake Falls - Merrill "Merle" Brevik, 59, died Saturday, December 18, 1999 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, December 22) at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls with Rev. Gary Graff officiating. Carol Thompson will be the organist, and the soloist will be Kyle Roelfs. Casketbearers will be Larry Graff, Clyde Ellefson, Ronnie Engen, Stan Wilson Jr., Bill Moser and Kyle Roelfs. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, December 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to today's services. The Petterson Funeral Home of Red Lake Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Merrill "Merle" Jordan Brevik was born on November 24, 1940 at Greenbush, the son of Willard and Agnes (Spilde) Brevik. He grew up in the Karlstad area. He was baptized at Oslo Lutheran Church in Kennedy. He graduated from Karlstad High School and the Thief River Falls Area Vocational Technical Institute.

On June 3, 1961 Merle married Fern Margaret Anderson at Zion Lutheran Church in Karlstad. He was employed at Wilson Brothers Company in Thief River Falls and Red Lake Falls as parts manager for more than 31 years. He was manager of the Red Lake Falls store for 24 years. He spent the last five years as parts manager at Red River New Holland in Crookston.

Merle served on the Bethany Lutheran Church council, as Sunday school superintendent and teacher and was involved in the men's Bible study group. He also served on the Red Lake Falls school board, the Red Lake Falls City Council and was a leader for the Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors include his wife, Fern Brevik of Red Lake Falls; two sons, Kent (Mary) Brevik of St. Louis Park and Kevin (Sarah) Brevik of Red Lake Falls; one daughter Kristen (fiancee Kevin Cochran) of Fargo, ND; his mother, Agnes Brevik of Karlstad; two grandchildren; two sisters, Beverly Ekdahl of Kennedy and Eileen Theisen of Roseau; one brother, Roger (Frances) Brevik of Phoenix, AZ; one brother-in-law, Phillip Haider of Thief River Falls; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willard in 1987; one sister, Janet Haider in 1998; and one brother-in-law. A00003B1999DC22
