LaVerne Boyum, 77

Mentor - LaVerne Boyum, 77, died Saturday, June 19, 1999 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am. today (Wednesday, June 23) at Maple Lake Lutheran Church, rural Fertile, with Reverend Robert Amundson officiating. Burial will be in Hitterdahl Lutheran Cemetery in Maple Bay.

Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to services at the church today.

LaVerne Josephine Mary Sebenaler was born on March 18, 1922 in rural Red Lake county, the daughter of Peter and Hazel (Bouffleur) Sebenaler. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. When LaVerne was a young girl, her mother died, and she was left to help raise her younger brother. She grew up in Red Lake county and then Polk county near Mentor. After graduating from Mentor High School in 1940, LaVerne remained at home for two years, continuing to help with family and farm work.

On February 18, 1942 she was united in marriage to Norman Arthur Boyum at Crookston. The couple moved to Norman's home farm in Godfrey township near Mentor where they farmed and raised their family. For five years, LaVerne worked as a housekeeper at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, retiring due to ill health.

She was a member of Hitterdahl Lutheran Church until its closing and was currently a member of Maple Lake Lutheran Church. Over the years, she was active in Ladies Aid and volunteered her time doing hair for the residents of Pioneer Home in Erskine.

LaVerne is survived by her husband, Norman of Mentor; three daughters, Sandra (Steve) Parsley of Fosston, Lynne (Michael) Forsberg of Ulen and Roxanne (Mike) Boehrnsen of McIntosh; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three brothers, DuWayne (Alice) Sebenaler of Temple Hills, MD, Ronald (Alice) Sebenaler of Mentor and Delton (Dorothy) Sebenaler of Oklee; one sister, Dorothy (Don) Ellefson of Minneapolis; three sisters-in-laws; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Russell; and an infant sibling. A00003B1999JN23
