
Eden Prairie - Beatrice S. Boyum, 78, died Friday, September 25, 1998 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush with Reverend Ernest Christensen officiating. Joan Haugen was the organist, and vocalists were Dale Billberg and Jeanne Novacek. Special music was provided by Yvonne Larson and Sean Owen. Casketbearers were Craig Larson, Jerald Larson, Kern Larson, Ryan Larson, Sean Owen and Dale Billberg. Interment was in Bethel Cemetery. The Collins Funeral Home of Greenbush was in charge of the arrangements.
Beatrice Sylvia Larson was born on March 10, 1920 at Stephen, the daughter of L.M. and Gunda (Moe) Larson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She grew up in the Holt area and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1938. Beatrice attended teacher's training at Bemidji State University for two years and taught at Wannaska for three years. She later taught in the Newfolden area and at Gatzke. She also taught Bible school at Roseau and Wannaska.
On June 20, 1945 Beatrice was united in marriage to Kenneth Boyum at Nazareth Lutheran Church at Holt. Since their marriage the couple has made their home on their farm in Barnett township of Roseau county near Greenbush. Beatrice worked at the Greenbush Public School from 1967 until her retirement in 1995.
She was a long-time member of Bethel Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and served as superintendent. She also served on the building committee, was past president of the Ladies Aid and was active in a variety of church activities. She was an accomplished writer of poetry and short stories and wrote them for many people in the community over the years.
Beatrice is survived by her husband, Kenneth; three daughters, Kathryn Davis of Thief River Falls and Bonny (Richard) Bothum and Becky (Robert) Kalinowski, both of Karlstad; one son Jeff (Kelly Slominski) Boyum of East Grand Forks; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Orville (Yvonne) Larson of Holt and Donald (Betty) Larson of Carrington, ND; and two sisters, her twin, Evelyn (William) Owen of Columbus, OH and Dorothy (Reverend Conrad) Cornelieus of Spencer, NC; one sister-in-law; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son in infancy; and one brother, Lowell.
