Erskine - Evangeline Boutain, 75, formerly of Dorothy, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at Pioneer Memorial Home in Erskine.

Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Dorothy's Catholic Church in Dorothy with Father Tim Bushy officiating. Polly Beyer was the organist, and special music was provided by St. Dorothy's Church Choir. Casketbearers were Todd Tydlacka, Tim Torgerson, Tammy Torgerson, Chad Peterson, Ryan Peterson and Kari Tydlacka. Honorary casketbearers were Jennifer Torgerson, Andrea Tydlacka, Patricia Torgerson, Kyle Torgerson and William Torgerson. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Petterson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Evangeline Eva Starken was born on December 20, 1930 at St. Hilaire, the daughter of Henry and Theresa (Cuno) Starken. She was raised and attended school in St. Hilaire.

During World War II, Eva worked in the shipyards in Oregon. When she returned to St. Hilaire, she met Andrew Harry Boutain, and the couple married on February 26, 1946 at St. Dorothy's Catholic Church. The couple farmed near Dorothy until their first retirement in 1976 when they moved to Menahga. During the early years of their marriage, Eva and Andrew farmed in Dorothy and Mt. Angel and owned businesses in Dorothy, Plummer and Lawton, ND.

After Andrew's death in 1985, Eva moved to Thief River Falls where she worked as a cook at Valley Home. She retired for a second time in 1995 and had resided at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine for the past two years.

She enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, gardening and making strawberry jam and homemade noodles. Among her favorite times were summer vacations with her grandchildren and holidays with her family.

Eva is survived by two daughters, Julie (Charles) Tydlacka of Viking and Janice (Milton) Peterson of Warroad; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond (Elsie) Starken of Davenport, IA and Paul (Lucille) Starken of Biwabik; two sisters, Alice (Don) Boutain of Dorothy and Margaret Howe of Canby, OR; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew; and six brothers and sisters, Tony Starken, Willie Starken, Mary Noel, Frances Egenes, Roselin Mountford and Nicholas Starken. A00003B1999JN30
