
Karlstad - Alice Bogestad, 83, died Friday, July 23, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit, in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 26 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Karlstad with Reverend Alden Erlandson officiating. Kathy Englund was the organist, and Corrine Jacobson was the vocalist. Casketbearers were Kylund Nelson, Dan Gerszewski, Chris Freeman, Jay Jonson, Harvey Helle and Daryl Foss. Burial was in the Karlstad City Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Alice Ingeborg Anderson was born on April 7, 1916 near Stephen, the daughter of Tom and Martha (Lofquist) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, attended rural school near Stephen and high school in Stephen. Alice worked as a cook for some time.
On November 20, 1937 she was united in marriage to Albin Bogestad in McVille, ND, and the couple lived on a farm between Karlstad and Stephen. In 1945, they moved into Karlstad where Alice and Albin owned and operated Al's Grocery and later Al's Cafe.
Alice served as Deerwood township assessor for many years and also worked at Hardware Hank and the Karlstad Nursing Home.
She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and was active in its Ladies Aid. She was a charter member of the Eagle's Auxiliary and served as its president. She also chaired the American Cancer Society drive in Karlstad for many years.
Alice is survived by one daughter, Shirley (Duane) Freeman of Thief River Falls; one son, Gary (Karen) Bogestad of Salt Lake City, UT; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albin on January 1, 1971; one son, Brian; one granddaughter, Shana Cieklinksi; her parents; one sister, Mabel Krogstad; three brothers, Hans, Raymond and Milton; and one niece and one nephew.
