
McIntosh - Karen Bernard, 44, died on Sunday, January 25, 1998 at her home in McIntosh.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston with Reverend Virgil Rasmussen officiating.
Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, January 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McIntosh Community Center and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. The Cease Funeral Home of Bagley is in charge of the arrangements.
Karen Hess was born on January 26, 1953 at Rochester, the daughter of Warren and Jo Mae Hess. She graduated from Chatfield High School in 1971 and attended Concordia College in Moorhead for two years.
On December 1, 1973 Karen was united in marriage to Steve Bernard at Stewartville. After their marriage they moved to McIntosh and then to Brooks and Greenbush for a short time. They moved back to McIntosh where they have resided for the last 19 years. Karen sold Home Interior Designs for 17 years. She also worked this past year as the assistant librarian at McIntosh.
Karen was active at Bethel Assembly Church and involved with the Women's Ministries and the Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) program through her church. She was constantly helping people and was a teacher and educator at heart. She enjoyed cake decorating and taught the art to high school students. Her hobby was remodeling her home.
Karen is survived by her husband, Steve Bernard of McIntosh; two sons, Mathew Steven Bernard of McIntosh and Thomas Edward Bernard of Orlando, FL; parents, Warren and Jo Mae Hess of Stewartville; three sisters, Kathryn Gillespie of Colorado Springs, CO, Shari Edge of Rochester and Mary Hess of Vadnais Heights; and her grandmothers, Doris Engel of Chatfield and Ella Hess of Stewartville.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Hess; and her grandfathers, Thomas Hess and Walter Engel.
