Thief River Falls - Ruth Bergland, 40, died Friday, May 29, 1998 at Dakota Heartland Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2 at Zion Lutheran Church with Reverend Gary Johnson officiating. Carolyn Trontvet was the organist. Daniel Trontvet was the soloist and also sang two duets with Scott Wessel. Casketbearers were Larry Saurdiff, Ray Moschner, Curt Johnson, Joe Wessel, Scott Wessel, Randy Ryan, Clark Gilbertson and Ed Gilbertson. Honorary casketbearers were her son, Steven Bergland Jr. and all of her friends and relatives. Burial was in St. Petri Cemetery in Gary. The Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Ruth Gilbertson was born on March 22, 1958 to Clark and Betty (Rogers) Gilbertson in Mahnomen. She was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Ada and attended school in Twin Valley. She worked at various jobs in Thief River Falls. She married Steven Bergland in Thief River Falls.
She enjoyed collecting owls and spending time with her son, Stevie Jr.
Ruth is survived by one son, Steven Bergland Jr.; two brothers, Clark of Wahpeton, ND and Ed of Detroit Lakes; and two nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and special friends, Tippi Benson and Susie Miller.
