River Falls - Edward Berard, 73, died Saturday, October 2, 1999
at his home in Thief River Falls following a long bout with
cancer.
Mass of Christian burial was held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dennis Wieland officiating. Kristie LaSalle was the organist, and cantors were Judy Dupree, Marie Nowacki and Kathy Kainz. Casketbearers were Tom Berard, Sidney Berard, Donald Fanfulik, Mike Fanfulik, Kenny Driscoll and John Driscoll. Burial was in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Thief River Falls. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Edward H. Berard was born on November 30, 1925 in Bathgate, ND, the son of Delore and Esther (Carter) Berard. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and attended school in Bathgate. He helped his father on the family farm before entering the United States Army Air Corps on April 25, 1944. While in the Air Corps he received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Service medal, the Good Conduct medal and the Army of Occupation medal. After being honorably discharged on May 31, 1946, Ed returned to Bathgate.
On November 26, 1946 Ed was united in marriage to Audrey Dumontet in East Grand Forks. The couple lived and farmed in Bathgate until 1950 when they moved to Lakota, ND. In 1952 they moved to Thief River Falls where they farmed in Silverton township. In 1996 they moved into Thief River Falls where they have since resided. Ed worked as a welder at Arctic Cat from 1965 until 1980 and also drove truck for many years.
He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church where he served as an usher. Ed was also a member of the Eagles and American Legion of Thief River Falls.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, snowmobiling and dancing and especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his wife, Audrey; one son, Gary (Dawn) Berard and one daughter, Gale (Jerome) Cota, both of Thief River Falls; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald (Pat) Berard of Minneapolis; one sister, Lillian (George) Fanfulik of St. Hilaire; and several nieces and nephews.
