Fertile - Wanda Bennes, 79, died Monday, June 22, 1998 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 26 at Little Norway Lutheran Church, rural Fertile. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Erikson-Vik Funeral Home of Fertile was in charge of the arrangements.
Wanda Lucille Fuglseth was born on August 19, 1918 in Garden township, rural Fertile to Oscar and Anna Maria (Hanson) Fuglseth. Wanda attended school in Godfrey township, rural Fertile, and following her schooling, she worked as a housekeeper. In about 1937 she began working as a kitchen assistant at Art Burslie's cafe. In 1938 Wanda began working as a kitchen assistant and nurse's aide at Bethesda Hospital in Crookston.
On June 30, 1943 Wanda was united in marriage to Ival Bennes at Fertile. In 1967 she began working as a home health aide for Polk County Nursing Services, a position she held until she retired in 1997.
She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and was a member of Little Norway Church, its ladies aid and was a former Sunday school superintendent.
Wanda is survived by one son, Byron (Justine) Bennes of Bismarck, ND; one daughter, Sharon (James) Burkholder of Thief River Falls; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Chancy, Leon and Donald; six sisters, Mona Fuglseth, Glendora Skeim, Loyla Aarness Lien, Kathleen Reynolds Simonson, Pearl Viken and an infant, Llweylen.
