Vernon Belland, 77

Gonvick - Vernon Belland, 77, of Gonvick died on Thursday, January 29, 1998 at Clearwater County Memorial Hospital in Bagley.

Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, February 4 at 2 p.m. at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick with Reverend Eric Midthun officiating. There will be no reviewal or visitation. The flag presentation will be by the Gonvick American Legion. The Cease Funeral Home of Bagley is in charge of the arrangements.

Vernon Belland was born on March 2, 1920 at Goodridge, the son of Thomas and Ida Belland. He grew up there and attended school in Goodridge and in Thief River Falls. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Vernon was married to Vera Hazelton on February 23, 1946 at Minneapolis. He farmed near Oklee for three years and after selling the farm, moved to Gonvick. He worked as assistant foreman for the bridge crew of the Soo Line railroad until an injury forced his retirement in 1972.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Vera; two daughters, Pam Grim of Solway and Jolene Robinson of Bemidji; one son, Steve Belland of Bemidji; and four grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, one his twin.
