
Thief River Falls - Gerald "Jerry" Belland, 63, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998 at Dakota Heartland Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 13 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Dennis Weiland officiating. Carol Amundson was the organist. Special music was provided by Joel Kezar and Jerol Gilbert. Judy Melby was the cantor. Casketbearers were Larry Carriere, Marland Kloety, David Majeres. Griffin Newland, Lyle Paulson and Roger Ryba. Burial was held in St. Bernard's Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Jerry Belland was born on January 9, 1935 in Argyle, the son of Edward E. and Cecil (Schiller) Belland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and attended St. Bernard's Catholic School and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls.
On August 4, 1962 he married Roberta Scheifert at Terrebonne. He worked in Thief River Falls for some time before moving to Dallas, TX where Jerry worked for Mutual of Omaha for 15 years. Gerald returned to Thief River Falls in 1981 and worked for Forsbergs, Inc. until his health forced his retirement in 1986.
With a great sense of humor, Jerry enjoyed life and people. He also enjoyed music and art. He was a nature lover and raised beautiful roses.
Survivors include his friend and companion, Darlene "Dollie" Newland and her family; two daughters, Lisa Belland-Carr of Richardson, TX and Lora (Greg) Samuel of Carrolton, TX; one step granddaughter; one sister, Barbara (Jack) Robinson of Napa, CA; and four brothers, Mark (Lillian) Belland of Vacaville, CA, Tom (Marie) Belland of Menahga, Vernon (Carol) Belland of Thief River Falls and David Belland of Duluth.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Norma Jane Belland.
