
Thief River Falls - Christine Barstad, 92, died Monday, May 31, 1999 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend John Wollenzien officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist, and the soloist was Grace Hammer. Casketbearers were Jeffrey Oden, Stephen Sorenson, Greg Sorenson, Merle Barstad Jr., Douglas Draeger and David Senstad. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Christine Hegrenes was born on March 17, 1907 in Silverton township of Red Lake county, the daughter of Johannes and Marit (Olsen Kveto) Hegrenes. She was baptized and confirmed at Silverton Lutheran Church and attended country school in Silverton township. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls. Following her graduation, she attended teacher's training and taught in area schools for several years. Christine was united in marriage to Einar Barstad on May 15, 1932 at Mavie.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Christine is survived by one son, Merle (Joyce) Barstad of Becker; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; four sisters, Gerda Knutson and Olga Nelson, both of Thief River Falls, and Hazel Oden and Doris Senstad, both of Minneapolis; one brother, Bennie Hegrenes of Twin Valley; one son-in-law, Richard Sorenson of Brooklyn Park; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Einar on August 15, 1990; one daughter, June Sorenson on September 26, 1998; her parents; three sisters, Selma Westby, Anna Leiran and Mildred Hegrenes; and three brothers, Joseph Hegrenes, Henry Hegrenes and Casper Hegrenes. A00003B1999JN09
