Barrow Obit colorThief River Falls - Robert R. Barrow, 85, died Friday, October 20, 2000 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Galen Sylvester officiating. Joyce Halbasch was the organist, Van Swanson was the soloist. Casketbearers were Dale Barrow, Jacob Gillette, Pete LaCoursiere, Pat Seidel, Dana Sorenson and Derek Sorenson. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Brooks.

Robert Richard Barrow was born on the family farm in Poplar River township near Brooks on July 28, 1915, the son of Elijah and Maude (Truehl) Barrow. He grew up and attended grade school in Brooks and farmed with his father until 1943.

In 1937, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Rossignol. They had two sons and a daughter. After Lorraine's death in 1943, Robert moved to Erskine where he resided with his parents. He and his brother, Rolland, ran a dray service in Erskine.

In 1956, he married Luella Zolin, and in 1959, the couple moved to Thief River Falls where both were employed at Northwest Medical Center. Luella died in 1978. Prior to his retirement, Robert worked at NWMC for 20 years in maintenance and engineering.

In 1983, Robert met and married June Swanson at Redeemer Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls.

He was a member of the Eagle's Club and Sons of the American Legion.

Robert enjoyed gardening, especially working with flowers.

Survivors include his wife, June; two sons, Donald (Mavis) of Erskine and Darold of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Janice Marsh of South St. Paul; stepchildren, Jerome (Lori) Sorenson, Clyde (Barb) Sorenson and Lana (Jim) Nelson, all of Thief River Falls, Jon (Kathy) Sorenson of Prior Lake, Jay (Stacy) Sorenson of Horace, N.D. and Faye (Jim) Bauer of Rugby, N.D.; a brother, Merle (Beulah) of Portland, Ore.; 21 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

Robert was preceded in death by his first and second wives; parents; a brother, Rolland; and a grandson, Barry. A00003B2000OC25
