Walls are up at the new Thief River Care Center building along Highway 59 on the southeast side of Thief River Falls. The 80,000-square-foot facility is expected to open in September 2011. (To purchase this photo, go to photos above right.)

    Work progresses on the new Thief River Care Center building along Highway 59 on the southeast side of Thief River Falls. The 80,000-square-foot facility is expected to open in September 2011. With construction and other affiliated costs, the project is estimated to cost $13 million.
    “Construction is going very well,” said Scott Jackson, director of projects and community services of St. Francis Health Services. SFHS owns the care center.

Hannah’s Helping Hands reach out Print E-mail

    Valley Home is now home to a brand new 46-inch Sanyo flatscreen television, thanks to the fundraising efforts of “Hannah’s Helping Hands - Just Trying to Make a Difference” and the fundraiser’s creator, 11-year-old Hannah Enge.
    Hannah, daughter of Aaron and Allie Enge of Thief River Falls, came up with the fundraising idea earlier this summer after she started volunteering at Valley Home.

Troopers ride the rails to prevent tragedy Print E-mail

     Minnesota State Patrol troopers were riding the  rails Friday, Aug. 27 in an effort to prevent accidents between trains and other motor vehicles.
    “We are focusing our effort on grade crossing violations, not only do we want to focus enforcement efforts on them but our public relations efforts on them,” said Capt. Dick Wittenberg.
    For about the past six years, troopers have been climbing aboard trains to stop motorists from trying to outrun trains. “It’s good for you guys to see what we see,” Canadian Pacific Rail Road Manager Vic Zerr told Wittenberg.
