Newfolden - George "Joe" Ellenburg, 72, died on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, surrounded by his family, church members and friends.
A closed private family service will be held.
George Allen Ellenburg was born on December 11, 1932 in Reidsville, N.C. to Furmond Dewey and Bettie Florance Ellenburg. He was raised in his early years in Washington DC, and then graduated from the Edison High School in Miami, Fla.
Joe served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Medals earned included the China Service medal, Korean Service medal, National Defense Service medal and United Nations Service medal. After returning home from his service, Joe worked as a construction supervisor in states along the east coast, constructing large buildings, including hotels, resorts, and sky scrapers.
He was united in marriage to Jo Ann Williams on September 14, 1975 in Miramar, Fla. Joe retired from construction in 1996. The couple lived in Florida and Virginia before moving to Newfolden in 1997.
“Joe” enjoyed bible studies, outings with his wife, and traveling. He was active in the Carpenters Union of Florida for many years, and attended the Community Church in Thief River Falls.
He is survived by his wife Jo of Newfolden; two children, Deb (Dale) Donarski of Newfolden and Richard (Marjorie) Irvin of Burbank, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters.
