Thief River Falls - Wanda Johnson, 70, of Gatzke, left our world on Friday, March 9, 2012 surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 17 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Casket bearers include Ron Hadler, Tim Hernandez, Ray Rondo Jr., Jeremy Hernandez, Michelle Rondo and Jessie Hernandez. Interment will follow at the Landstad Cemetery near Gatzke.
Wanda Lee Litzau was born Dec. 24, 1941 in Minneapolis, the daughter of Albert and Maurine (Schaeve) Litzau.
She attended Clay Elementary School, Phillips Junior High School and South High School in Minneapolis.
Wanda moved to the Gatzke area in the spring of 1971. She rode along with a friend to visit family for a weekend and met her future husband, Otto. Wanda was united in marriage to Otto Johnson on Jan. 1, 1974 in Grygla. The couple made their home on the farm, rural Gatzke in Rollis Township. She worked at Polaris in Roseau for over 17 years, retiring in 2005.
Wanda was born and raised in Minneapolis, and settled her life in Gatzke, 41 years ago. Wanda transformed from her city life to enjoy country living. She enjoyed working around the yard, ice fishing, football, dancing country western music and going to festivals. She loved to help Otto restore collector cars.
Wanda was a devoted, compassionate, big hearted, kind person willing to do anything for you. She will be missed dearly by anyone who came in contact with her.
Wanda is survived by Otto Johnson, her partner in life, of Gatzke; one daughter, Linda Hernandez of Brainerd; brother, Gary Litzau of St. Francis; sister, Kathy (Bill) Hadler of Becker; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; special friends, Kathy Tveit and Shannon Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Maurine; sisters, Caroline and Carol; and ex-husband, Bill Clark.
