McIntosh - Ilene Lenore Gustafson, 63, of McIntosh, died on Sunday, April 17 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D., following a courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, April 23 at Trinity Free Lutheran Church in rural McIntosh, with the Rev. Dale Mellgren officiating. Honorary Pallbearers included Albert and Ruth Mandt, Debbie Lofstrand, Joyce Brinkman, Lorraine Brekke, Lynn Lucken, and Shirley and Kenny Hanson. Interment was held at the church cemetery.
Ilene Lenore Ferden was born on April 28, 1941 in McIntosh, to parents Kenneth and Ida (Nesland) Ferden. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1960.
She was united in marriage to Arthur Gustafson on January 2, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, they lived in Fargo, N.D. and Salem, Ore., for a short time before returning to McIntosh to raise their family. Arthur died in March 1986 and Ilene continued to live at home in McIntosh.
She was a certified dietary technician and was most recently employed at the Midway Care Center in Fosston until ill health forced her to retire.
She was a member of Trinity Free Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies’ Aide. She loved working in her garden and yard, crafting, and was a very good cook—Ilene was especially known for her wonderful jelly making. She was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
Survivors include her three children, Rita (Mike) Conners of Cody, Wyo., Scott (Marcy) Gustafson of Dallas, Texas, and Juanita Hepburn of McIntosh; three grandchildren; her mother, Ida (Ferden) Hanson of Fosston; one sister, Shirley (Derry) DeFrang of McIntosh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
