Phoenix, Ariz. - Swen Sjulestad, 96, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 in Phoenix, Ariz.Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 7205 N. 51st Ave., Glendale, Ariz. He was born in rural Goodridge on April 2, 1915 to Even and Engeborg Sjulestad. He married Bonnie Zavoral on June 29, 1941. They raised three daughters and in 1962 they moved to Phoenix. Swen was employed by the Washington School District, retiring in 1978. He enjoyed card games, his woodworking projects, traveling, camping and spending time with his family. Swen is survived by his loving wife Bonnie, daughters Sandra (Jim) Prigge, Diane (Bob) Randolph, Renae (Bruce) Bjerklie; grandchildren: Scott (Bobbi) Prigge, Jeff (Terri) Prigge, Jim (Selina) Prigge, Steve (Nithia) Prigge, Michelle (Scott) Whitney, Jason (Erin) Randolph, Jennifer (fiancé Manuel Vargas) Randolph, Marty (Amanda) Randolph, Lisa (Sean) Truelove, Chris (Kristy Nelson) Bjerklie, Jami (fiancé Rich Hendrickson) Eischens, Bryan Bjerklie; 27 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister Gertie Elg; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gerald, Eddy, Robert; and sister, Signe Miller. Arrangements are being handled by Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. Seventh St., Phoenix, Ariz., 85020.
