Crookston - Floyd Hallan, 90, of Crookston, formerly of Thief River Falls, died on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 (today), at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Tim Lundeen officiating. Casket bearers include Paul Swenson, Adam Swenson, Andy Swenson, Patrick Vesey, Joe Vesey and Tom Wold. Honorary casket bearers include all of Floyd’s nieces and nephews. Interment will follow in Stjordalen Cemetery, rural Reynolds, ND.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
Floyd Gordon Hallan was born on March 21, 1921 in Morgan Township of Traill County in North Dakota. Son of Peter and Mollie (Kleven) Hallan, he grew up in the Donaldson and Middle River area. He graduated from Stephen High School in 1939. On Feb. 12, 1949 he married Betty Semple in North St. Paul.
They moved to Thief River Falls in 1951. Floyd worked at Kelly Hardware and Home Lumber for many years. He later opened Floyd’s Appliance Center in Thief River Falls.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed raising Black Angus cattle and fishing. He also was a great story teller and enjoyed visiting and genuinely knowing what was going on in the lives of each person that he encountered. Later on in his life, he enjoyed traveling and cutting a rug (dancing) at the Heritage Center.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Mark) Nies, Crookston; his three grandsons: Paul Swenson and his wife Anne Swenson, Rochester, Adam Swenson and his special friend Val Anton and her son Austin, Thief River Falls, and Andy Swenson, Minneapolis; three great-grandsons: Blaine, Mason, and Lukas, step-grandchildren Nikki (Jason) Darling, Moorhead, Rory Nies, Fargo, and Sarah Nies, St. Paul, step-great-granddaughter Molly Darling.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty; his parents; brother, Palmer; sisters, Marion Vesey, Bernice Minski, Helen Johnson and Lyla Hallan.
