Gatzke - Shirley Hagen, 60 of Gatzke, died on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1024 Tindolph Ave. S., Thief River Falls, with Pastor David Fish officiating. Casket bearers include Brenda Friesner, Vince Hagen, Juanita Watne, Josh Watne, Kelsie Hagen, Shalin Anderson, Jordan Hagen, Bailey Watne and Brigette Watne. Interment will follow at the Moose River Cemetery in Gatzke.
Visitation will be held from 5: to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
Shirley Mae Anderson was born on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1951 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Lloyd and Ella (Rye) Anderson. She grew up in the Rosewood community and following the death of Shirley’s father, Lloyd, when Shirley was age 14, the family moved into Thief River Falls. Shirley graduated from Lincoln High School in 1969.
While working at Inga’s Café (now Dee’s Kitchen), Shirley met her future husband, Keith Hagen. On Dec. 31, 1969 she was united in marriage to Keith at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Thief River Falls. To this union, three children were born, Brenda, Vince and Juanita. They lived in Thief River Falls until March of 1973 when they moved to the Hagen family farm in Rollis Township, near Gatzke.
She worked at Arctic Cat for a short time, but chose to stay at home to raise her children. Shirley was dedicated to her family and her community.
Shirley enjoyed woodworking, baking, cooking, cake decorating, and was an artist and a published poet. She was also active with many school activities.
Survivors include her loving husband, Keith Hagen of Gatzke; children, Brenda (Ralph) Friesner of Embarrass, Vince (Heather) Hagen of Gatzke, and Juanita Watne of Grygla; grandchildren, Kelsie Hagen, Jordan Hagen, Josh Watne, Shalin Anderson, Bailey Watne, Brigette Watne; brothers and sisters, Dorothy (Larry) Schneider, Richard (Judie) Anderson, Robert Anderson, Judy (Arlen) Sorum; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Anderson; mother, Ella Anderson/
Steinhauer; and step-father, Walter Steinhauer.
