Thief River Falls - Neil Nelson, 53, died on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at his home in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 25, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Mel Sich officiating. Casket bearers included Vernon Olsen, Aaron Olsen, Kevin Olsen, Steve Kaushagen, Tom Milford and Dan Grover. Honorary casket bearers included all of Neil’s family and friends. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Neil Alan Nelson was born February 17, 1952 in Thief River Falls, the son of Newell and Alice (Horton) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Melo Lutheran Church, Angus. He grew up and attended school, graduating from Warren High School in 1970. He served in the United States Navy from May 27, 1971, and earned the National Defense Service Medal, until his honorable discharge, November 30, 1972.
On June 12, 1981, Neil was united in marriage to Wanda Olsen in Thief River Falls. He worked for farmers in the Thief River Falls area. He also worked for Falls Diesel, Land O’ Lakes, and Pamida all in Thief River Falls and American Crystal Sugar in Crookston. The couple lived in Thief River Falls.
Neil enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, yard work, riding motorcycles and making model cars, planes and ships.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda of Thief River Falls; daughter, Audry (Dan) Grover Jr. of Pembina, N.D., and step-daughter, Jessica Olsen of Warroad; sister, Linda (Steve) Kaushagen of Thief River Falls; nieces, Lora and Michele; and nephews, Craig, Scott and John.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Norman and David Tunheim.
