Thief River Falls - Oliver Housker, 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, N.D. Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, with Pastor Ollie Urdahl officiating. Casket bearers included Roger Foldoe, Ramiro Mireles, John Lubitz, Sharon Lane Eckert, Mike Bradshaw and Larry Sourdif. Honorary casket bearers included his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. Military honors were provided by Brandon Foldoe, Thief River Falls American Legion and VFW Posts, and the Minnesota National Guard Honor Guard. Interment was held at the Greenbush Cemetery. Oliver Edwin Housker was born on Nov. 24, 1930 to Edward R. and Olga P. (Gulbranson) Housker in Greenbush. He attended school in Greenbush. Before the military, he worked for many farmers in the Greenbush area. He also worked at turkey farms in the Holt area. Oliver was united in marriage to Darlene Jean Barclay on June 3, 1972 in Warroad. Oliver served his country in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1949. He did boot camp at Fort Knox, Ky., and was stationed in Korea. When he returned home from the service he went home to Greenbush. He worked second shift at Polaris in Roseau for many years. He bartended in numerous establishments in Warroad and Roseau. In his last few working years, he worked for Odelle Olafson Farms near Roseau. He moved to St. Hilaire in the early 2000s. He lived at the Riverside Terrace in Thief River Falls, where he enjoyed visiting with the residents and coffee time. He most recently lived at the Thief River Care Center for the past five years. Oliver enjoyed playing pinochle, whist and smear. He loved to visit with people. Collecting toy tractors was also a hobby. He also liked playing BINGO at the Care Center. He liked helping his daughter and son-in-law with their lawn work. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apples of his eye. When he lived at the high rise, he enjoyed riding his scooter around town. He is survived by one daughter Elizabeth (Larry) Sourdif, St. Hilaire; one son Dennis Barclay, Viking; daughter Lois Barclay, Little Falls, stepson Robert (fiancé Julie Olson) Okerlund, Warroad; eight grandchildren: Angela (Ramiro Mireles) Thompson, Thief River Falls, Krystal (fiancée Cory Cardinal) Sourdif, St. Hilaire, Denise (Tom Jacobson) Sourdif, Thief River Falls, Kari Thompson, St. Cloud, Summer Dawn Barclay, Thief River Falls, Jericho Reno, Little Falls, Tesa Reno, Little Falls, Joshua Reno, Little Falls; eight great-grandchildren; and one on the way; one brother, Gary Housker, Thief River Falls; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene; brothers, Ordean, Tilford, and Robert Housker; sister Adeline Housker; nephew James Housker; and his parents.
