 Viking - Dwayne Myers, 51, died on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012 at his home near Viking, surrounded by his loving family.Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden, with Pastor Ollie Urdahl officiating. Casket bearers included Brian Timm, Shane Timm, Anthony Hendricks, Arron Hendricks, Matthew Larson and Kory Engelstad. Honorary casket bearers included all of Dwayne’s nieces and nephews. Interment was held at Viking Cemetery near Viking. Dwayne Richard Myers was born on Feb. 14, 1960 in Las Vegas, Nev., the son of Alvin Willis and Mary (Scott) Myers. When Dwayne was age 14, the family moved to rural McIntosh, and Dwayne attended school in Erskine, and graduated in 1978. Dwayne moved to Thief River Falls following high school and went to work at Arctic Cat and at Hydra-Mac for a short time. In November 1980 he started working at Forsberg’s where he has been ever since. Dwayne started working as a welder and in 1989 moved to assembly. On October 2, 1993, Dwayne was united in marriage to Dorene Larson in a double ceremony with Dorene’s sister, Cheryl and Murray Engelstad at Valhall in Rocksbury Township near Thief River Falls. They made their home in rural Viking, and in 1995 homesteaded on their 80 acres in New Solum Township. This union was blessed with two daughters, Taylor (1995) and Ashley (1999). Dwayne was very creative; he loved to work with his hands with both wood and metal. At work or at home, Dwayne had the passion, ability, know-how, and the organizational skills to think through and complete a project. He always had his project list handy and knew what he wanted to do next, he would finish one project and add two more. He was very meticulous with the detail. Some of Dwayne’s projects included refurbishing a fishing boat, building bunk beds, making a fence for the cows, making several derby cars, assembled numerous machines at Forsbergs, and while alongside of Dorene, built the home and outbuildings at their farm. Dwayne was not afraid to work through the night on a project and was always willing to help family or friends with their projects. Dwayne was a true outdoorsman who especially loved deer hunting and shooting with Taylor and Ashley, elk hunting with Dorene in the mountains; staying up all night in the moonlight hunting beaver, or feeding marshmallows to the raccoons. He was a man who loved nature and all that went with it. There were a lot of memories made throughout the years. He also enjoyed playing cards, family get-togethers, boating, fishing, water skiing, swimming, and tubing with the kids. Dwayne along with his family enjoyed building and working with their herd of beef cattle; they were his pets. Survivors include his loving wife of 18 years, Dorene; their daughters, Taylor and Ashley all at home in rural Viking; father, Alvin of rural McIntosh; sisters, Doris (John) McCracken of Las Vegas, Nev., and Deborah (Nick) Paul of Carson City, Nev.; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
