 Middle River - Shirley Ann Olson, 72, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls.Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012 at 2 p.m. at New Hope Church in Newfolden. Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls. Shirley Ann Olson was born on Aug. 9, 1939 in Reynolds, N.D., to Clarence and Mrytle (Bakken) Skyberg. She was baptized at United Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, N.D., and confirmed at Oiland Free Lutheran Church in Greenbush. She attended school in Juneberry, Greenbush, and Newfolden. Her family moved to Juneberry in 1940, where she spent her childhood years. In 1956, her family moved to Ringbo, Holt Township. She was united in marriage to Robert G. Olson on May 3, 1957, in Greenbush. The couple made their home in rural Holt on the Olson Homestead and were blessed with six children, Robbin, Orrin, Susan, Ross, Bryan and Kristie. They raised dairy cattle, sheep and farmed small grain. She devoted her time to being a great homemaker and loving wife and mother. She was active in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Ladies Aide of Ringbo, as well as an active member of New Hope Church in Newfolden. She was also employed at Arctic Cat for several years. Shirley loved to spend time crocheting afghans and doilies and took pride in crocheting baptismal afghans for the grandchildren. She had a love for collecting precious moments, inspired by the meaning of what each one stood for. She also enjoyed snowmobiling, woodworking, bowling, and attending car shows and swap meets. Shirley especially enjoyed listening to old-time country and gospel music while attending threshing bees with her husband. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. Shirley is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert; five children: Orrin Olson, Thief River Falls, Susan (Mark) Lee, Plummer, Ross (Traci) Olson, Perham, Bryan Olson, Middle River, Kristie Olson, Thief River Falls; 13 grandchildren: Andy Tabor Olson, Kayse, Jami, Sheena and Courtney Lee, Chelsey, Brandon, and Cierra Olson, Gabe Ulschmid, Lisa, Harley and Eva Olson, Jackson Olson; one great-grandchild: Chastity Tabor; one brother: Donald Skyberg, Moorhead; three sisters: Adeline (Floyd) Nelson, Newfolden, Elaine (Curtis) Thompson, Newfolden, Rose (Marvin) Nelson, Thief River Falls; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by infant daughter, Robbin Jean Olson; parents, Clarence and Myrtle Skyberg; an infant brother and sister; two sisters: Evelyn (Edward) Johnson, Clarice (Gilbert) Trontvet; two brothers: Conrad Skyberg, Harvey Skyberg; and daughter-in-law, Vickie Olson. Shirley Olson passed away peacefully with her husband and son at her side on Jan. 21, 2012 at the Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, at the age of 72 years, 5 months, and 12 days.
