Thief River Falls - Joseph Shirbish, 85, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls.
Private family services will be held with burial next to his wife at the St. Ann’s Cemetery in Porterville, Calif.
Joseph William Shirbish was born on Sept. 4, 1926 to Joseph and Edna (Arnet) Shirbish in McKeysrock, Pa. He grew up in Belmont, Ohio. He attended school there and graduated from high school.
He was united in marriage to Alexina Marie Chatel on Jan. 19, 1952. They lived in a few places, including Minneapolis, then Ohio, then Southern California, and then near Los Angeles, Calif. Joe worked at Admiral Corporation as a field supervisor for about five years. He then worked at RCA as a supervisor technician in Los Angeles, Calif., for about 10 years. He then worked at the Porterville College in California as an AV Technician until retiring in 1977.
He and his wife Alexina traveled and lived in Woodridge, Manitoba for many summers. They then bought a house in Greenbush, in 1995 and made permanent residence there. Alexina died in 1999, and Joe then lived with his son Don for six years and then lived with his son David for 6½ years in Thief River Falls.
Joe had the gift to gab. He was an avid ham radio operator. When his children were growing up, he was active in their activities and coaching the sports they played in.
He is survived by three children: Don (Helene) Shirbish, Thief River Falls, Denise (Ted) Davidson, Phoenix, Ariz., and David (Pamela) Shirbish, Thief River Falls; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his granddaughter Deana Shirbish.
